Order of Physiotherapists takes part in National Health Council hearing in Parliament

During the hearing, the work planned for the coming year was also discussed, reinforcing the role of the CNS as a space for consensus and strategic orientation in national public health.

Order of Physiotherapists at the National Health Council

The official integration of the Order of Physiotherapists into the CNS, realised through the Decree-Law 46/2024The new law of 17 July reflects the recognition of the profession's contribution to public health. Based on the concept of One Health (One Health), the Order's participation in the CNS reinforces the interdependence between human, animal and environmental health and demonstrates the commitment of physiotherapists to contribute to the formulation of more inclusive and sustainable policies, alongside other professional orders in the area of Health.

Inauguration of the Supervisory Board of the Order of Physiotherapists

The swearing-in ceremony for the Supervisory Board of the Order of Physiotherapists, which was elected on 15 November, took place today, 7 December 2024, at the Miguel Franco Theatre in Leiria.

The ceremony was attended by the members of the Board of Directors and the Chairman of the General Council, Rui Dias Costa, who conducted the swearing-in ceremony. On the occasion, the elected members signed the terms of office, formalising their integration into this new statutory body.

The President of the Portuguese Bar Association, António Lopes, closed the session with a speech highlighting the importance of the Supervisory Board, which fulfils its statutory obligations.

Presidents of the Orders align priorities and strategies for Health

The Presidents of the Health Professional Associations met on Thursday 5 December at the headquarters of the Pharmaceutical Association in Lisbon.

During the meeting, priorities and intervention strategies were shared, identifying convergent points and solutions for promoting quality and access to healthcare. Healthy ageing was one of the central themes, from a "One Health" perspective that integrates human, animal and environmental health.

The meeting reinforces the role of professional organisations as interlocutors with the government and health authorities, enabling them to coordinate actions that promote more sustainable, equitable and accessible care, responding to society's needs.

Presentation of the Book "Physiotherapy in Mental Health - Experience Informs Evidence"

On the day 4th December 2024The ICAD 2024 videoconference took place, with the theme "Physiotherapy: mental health and addictions"for the presentation of the book "Physiotherapy in Mental Health - Experience Informs Evidence".

Speakers:

  • Ana Isabel Vieira - Physiotherapist, PhD in Health Sciences with a speciality in Neurological Rehabilitation. Lecturer at the Escola Superior de Saúde do Alcoitão.
  • João Casaca - Physiotherapist, PhD in Neurosciences. Lecturer at the Escola Superior de Saúde do Alcoitão and Coordinator of the first Postgraduate Programme in Physiotherapy in Mental Health.
  • Maria Leonor Madureira - Physiotherapist with a Specialist Degree in Physiotherapy. She works at ICAD, I.P. - the Taipas Centre's Dehabituation Unit and is a guest lecturer at the Alcoitão Higher School of Health.

  • Graça Vilar - Psychiatrist and Director of the Integrated Intervention Department at ICAD, I.P.

Order of Physiotherapists launches public tender for new headquarters

The Order of Physiotherapists announces the opening of a public tender for the contract to adapt its new headquarters, an important milestone in the institution's history. Currently housed in the LEAP Centre - Espaço Amoreiras, the Order is taking another significant step by creating a modern and functional space that aims to improve the support and services provided to its members and society in general.

The call for tenders is open until 16th December 2024. Interested companies can consult the Notice of Procedurepublished in the Official Gazette.

Recruitment Notice - Recruitment of an Advisor for the Member Support Office (GAM) and Citizen Support Office (GAC)

The Order of Physiotherapists is recruiting physiotherapists to fill two (2) Advisor (m/f) positions - one (1) for the Member Support Office (GAM) and the other (1) for the Citizen Support Office (GAC).

The Order of Physiotherapists informs that the following have been published today in Official GazetteNotices no. 23826/2024/2 and no. 23827/2024/2of 25 October on the public consultation of the following draft regulations:

  • Regulations for Crediting Continuing Professional Development Activities

Responses to the Public Consultation
All members of the Order of Physiotherapists, with current registration, are invited to participate by filling in the form to send comments.

Carlos Sand

Carlos Areia has been a physiotherapist since 2013, and has worked in various hospitals, clinics and clubs in both Portugal and the UK. He began his academic career at Oxford University in 2016, where he led a clinical trial comparing physiotherapy vs surgery in anterior cruciate injuries in 32 hospitals in England. In 2018 she moved to the neurosciences department, where she developed her own studies on remote monitoring of vital signs, which were implemented during the pandemic. Here he discovered his passion for data, and in 2022, he joined Digital Science as a Data Scientist. He completed his PhD earlier this year, and has more than 60 publications in journals such as The Lancet, BMJ, Cochrane, among others. He is also an honorary lecturer at Oxford Brookes University and a consultant in clinical research.

PhD in Physiotherapy from the University of Brighton, UK. Post-Doctorate in Epidemiology from the National School of Public Health at the New University of Lisbon.

Sara Souto Miranda

Sara Souto Miranda has a bachelor's and master's degree in physiotherapy from the University of Aveiro, and a postgraduate qualification in adult respiratory physiotherapy from the same institution. In 2023 she completed her double doctorate in Rehabilitation Sciences/Health, Medicine and Life Sciences at the Universities of Aveiro and Maastricht (Netherlands) and is currently working as a technical-scientific advisor to the Studies and Planning Office (GEP) of the Order of Physiotherapists, and as a guest lecturer at the Piaget Institute in Vila Nova de Gaia. As a member of the Respiratory Research and Rehabilitation Laboratory at the University of Aveiro (Lab3R), she has carried out applied research in which she has assessed and treated patients with respiratory pathology, having taken part in 6 research projects. Throughout her career she has published 19 scientific articles in international peer-reviewed journals with an impact factor, 1 book chapter and more than 50 abstracts in conference proceedings. She was a research volunteer at the Ciro rehabilitation centre (Centre for expertise in chronic organ failure) in the Netherlands, and is currently a member of the Guideline Methodology Network of European Respiratory Society. She was honoured by European Lung Foundation e European Respiratory Society for carrying out patient-centred research, by the Directorate General for Higher Education with a merit grant for his master's degree, and by the Ciro Centre with a grant to support research abroad.
